Spiritual Warrior’s Guide to A Proven Islam, by Niamo Mu’id (Anansi Clear Press, 2002)

This is the first book in the series, Spiritual Warrior’s Guides. First, I want to apologize for getting some of you rankled because of this title, “Proven Islam.” I believe all religions are proven and correct for their people to the extent they embrace its tenets and adhere to the faith. Adherence is critical; the spiritual connection is made a material bond through the practice and ritual the culture has created to make formal its beliefs. This is what I mean by “proven.” As physics experiments are “proving” to us, proof like beauty is always in the eyes of the beholder.

Though this cover seems "fire and brimstone," the content is love and forgiveness. The horseman is a goldweight sculpture from northwest Africa. The men praying were photographed at the Million Man March by Preston Vzmala

For me, religion and spirituality are very close in meaning. If your sense of “religious” is rooted in respect for other human beings and a “hands off” attitude toward their beliefs and practices, you are invited to keep reading and to enjoy these pages.

The Spiritual Warrior’s Guide to A Proven Islam is my way of reinforcing the right of this particular religious perspective to exist. Islam means submission or surrender to God and all religions share this feature–submission or surrender to a particular sense of the divine. If we strip away the culture and the traditions and focus on the sacred text, the Qur’an, we can explore the wisdom that is contained in it and the similarities to other religions.

To approach the book this way is the recommended course for any spiritual warrior on the path of transformation. If you want to develop your body=mind=spirit, you will get the most information and guidance about a sacred path by reading the original text that inspired it. Not by assuming you know it by observing the extreme behavior of some adherents.

My book deals with the Qur’an (Koran) as the primary point of reference and is available on Amazon.com.
